It’s been a productive and insightful week in Taiwan, as Worcester Presses visited three of its long-standing partners – Chin Fong, Yeh Chiun and TOMAC.

The visit focused on seeing presses and coil lines in build, reviewing new developments and planning future projects for UK manufacturers. Worcester Presses has worked with Chin Fong since 1990, TOMAC since 2000 and Yeh Chiun since 2008. Before Covid, trips to Taiwan took place every one to two years, so this was the first time in six years that the teams were back together on the shop floor.

Today, Worcester Presses delivers Worcester mechanical presses, Chin Fong power presses, Yeh Chiun hydraulic presses and TOMAC coil handling equipment, backed by processing kit, press transfer robot lines and a rapid service and spares team. Its partnerships with Taiwanese manufacturers sit at the heart of this offer.

Our visit at a glance

Chin Fong – Reviewing heavy-duty mechanical power presses, including an STD-250 in build and the latest G2-300 and G2-400 developments, with a focus on capacity, bolster size and high tonnage applications.

Yeh Chiun – On the hydraulic press lines, looking at a YCT-300 ready for FAT and an 800-ton press in early build, while discussing forming, deep drawing and control set-ups for UK production.

TOMAC – On the coil handling side, inspecting a 30-ton decoiler, 2000 mm-wide slitting and crop shear equipment, and confirming suitability for wide, thick material on heavy-duty lines.

The Value of Our Taiwan Partnerships

Taiwan is a major centre for high quality machine tools and automation, particularly in press and coil handling technology. Working with leading Taiwan press manufacturers gives Worcester Presses and its customers:

  • Choice – a wide range of press types, capacities and configurations
  • Compatibility – coil handling systems designed to integrate cleanly with presses
  • Continuous improvement – a steady flow of updates in controls, safety and performance

Over time, the relationships with Chin Fong, Yeh Chiun and TOMAC have been built on trust, consistent quality and reliable back-up. The combined teams work as one, from early design discussions through to supporting machines in long-term production.

Chin Fong: power presses at scale

The first visit was to Chin Fong, one of the world’s largest power press manufacturers. Its range covers mechanical presses up to 3,000 tons in C frame and straight side designs.

On the factory floor, the Worcester Presses team reviewed an STD-250 ton straight sided double crank press close to completion, fitted with a 4000 x 1500 mm bolster for larger tools and demanding work. A clutch and brake unit from a WF2-2500 ton hot forging press, and a busy clutch assembly area with multiple units in build, underlined Chin Fong’s experience at very high tonnages.

The visit also covered the latest developments in the G2 range. The line now includes G2-300 and G2-400 models, with the G2-400 offering a 2700 x 1300 mm bolster. For UK manufacturers, that provides more options when a job calls for higher capacity and a larger bed, without moving away from a proven press platform.

Yeh Chiun: hydraulic presses for demanding work

The second visit was to Yeh Chiun, Worcester Presses’ hydraulic press partner in Taiwan. Yeh Chiun supplies hydraulic presses from 10 to 300 tons in C frame configuration and 100 to 1000 tons in straight side configuration, all equipped with HMI touch screens for straightforward setting and adjustment.

Two builds were of particular interest: a YCT-300 straight sided hydraulic press ready for FAT testing, and an 800 ton hydraulic press at the start of its build, already showing the strength and rigidity of the main frame.

Time with the Yeh Chiun engineering team was used to talk through forming and deep drawing tasks common in UK plants, including control layouts, guarding and preparation for automation and specific tooling. The aim is that presses arrive as close as possible to production-ready, reducing commissioning time and helping new lines reach stable output sooner.

TOMAC: coil handling for heavy duty lines

The final stop was TOMAC, partner for coil handling and processing equipment since 2000. TOMAC manufactures separate decoilers, straighteners and roll feeders, as well as compact 2-in-1 coiler and straightener units and 3-in-1 decoiler, straightener and feeder systems that reduce floor space and speed up threading on heavy coils.

On site, the Worcester Presses team inspected a 30 ton decoiler designed for 2000 mm-wide coil, a slitting line processing 2000 mm-wide material up to 6 mm thick, and a crop shear rated for 2000 mm-wide, 6 mm-thick material. The equipment is extremely robust, built to high quality ISO standards and clearly aimed at long-term use on heavy-gauge, high-volume production lines.

What this means for UK manufacturers

The Taiwan visits were not simply a chance to look at new machinery. They directly shape what Worcester Presses can deliver in 2026 and beyond:

  • Better-matched presses – extended Chin Fong G2 options, such as the G2-300 and G2-400, allow press capacity and bolster size to be specified more precisely around tooling and output needs.
  • Hydraulic capacity for tougher jobs – ongoing development at Yeh Chiun, including large builds like the 800 ton press, supports deeper draws, thicker materials and more demanding forming work.
  • Coil lines built for serious production – heavy duty TOMAC decoilers, slitting lines and 3-in-1 systems provide the backbone for integrated lines handling wider and thicker material.
  • Stronger long-term support – insights from the visits feed into Worcester Presses’ UK-based replacement parts and labour service for planned and unplanned repairs, backed by engineers on site, technical support from all three partners, more than one thousand parts held in stock and in-house manufacturing capability.

In practical terms, customers gain more choice, better-specified equipment and confidence that their presses and coil lines are backed by a team that understands the machinery from design through to daily production.

One team, shared success

Across all three factories, one theme stood out. The partnerships with Chin Fong, Yeh Chiun and TOMAC are built on working as a single team, not as separate companies. That joint approach, developed over decades, has been a major factor in the success of many UK installations.

By returning to Taiwan after six years, standing beside presses and coil lines in build and meeting engineers face to face again, Worcester Presses has strengthened those ties. For customers, it means continued access to the best of Taiwan press manufacturers, combined with local application knowledge, installation expertise and long-term support from a UK partner that knows the equipment inside out.
